What are the basic requirements for a cheerleader trying out in freshman year?

Question by C0RRII3: What are the basic requirements for a cheerleader trying out in freshman year?
I live in Katy,Texas (USA) so…What flips should I be able to do? Is flexibility something major, or should I worry less about that? Is the try-out dance hard? ALSO, I had been in both gymnastics and cheer for four years prior to the beginning of sixth grade.

In order to get on JV at my school you have to have a back handspring. For varsity you have to have a back tuck.
Flexability is important, because good jumps definetely get you noticed. I don’t know if your try out dance will be hard, I don’t go to your school.
Just try really had to get noticed, basically.

i just tried out for cheer at my new high school (i made it [= ) and we had to be able to do jumps such as a russian, a pike, a hurkey, and a C-jump. we had to be able to at least do a standing back handspring and a running round-off back handspring. they asked us to see our splits, bow and arrows, and some other flexibility tricks. also, my combination was pretty simple but i don’t know how it works at your school!
    good luck! [=

Its different for every school. But mainly, they count you on your try-out dance, your cheer, and your jumps. Basically, its very important to have a good approach at things. Be VERY peppy, and spirit ALOT. The try-out dances are usually not that hard, as long as you are good at memorizing. The cheer is usually not that hard, but once again, its good to have a good memory. Be very sharp, as well. As for jumps, height is good, but that’s not what they pay attention to. its all about the approach. Make sure your very sharp and you hit all your motions perfectly. When it comes to tumbling, they usually wont count off if you can’t tumble. But i heard that they go via points, so even just a cartwheel is better than anything.

All I can really say, is be VERY loud, VERY peppy, VERY sharp, and ALWAYS smile.

I know it kinda sounds bad, but you have to show them you’re better than all the rest. (:
