I am a cheerleading and dance coach so my advice to you would be to practice your high kicks [straight legs, pointed toes] dont worry about how high they are just yet, focus more on perfect technique, the height will come later on with practice. Also work on perfecting a single turn, once you master a perfect single, then try a double, and so on…You also may want to work on leaps, as same with the high kicks focus more on technique and dont worry so much about the height, straight legs, pointed toes. And what I tell my students is to keep everything crisp and clean. If you are sharp on all your moves then it makes everything look 100% better! If you have any other questions just let me know! :]

Definitely work on jazz pirouettes, flexibility, and musicality. I am captain of the dance team at my school, and during tryouts we really look for flexibility, how fast you catch on the choreography, facial expressions, flexibility, and attitude. Always stay positive, even if you aren’t catching on to the choreography. Ask questions at appropriate times and stay quiet and attentive while learning. Stretch every day for at least thirty minutes. You can sit in your straddle position and do your homework. Make sure you try and get a clean single pirouette; you can practice in the kitchen or any hardwood floor. It is also very important that you listen to music and pick up beats. If you can learn a combo or try and choreograph your own dance it will help with your musicality so that you are on target and on beat. You can watch YouTube videos for how to instructions on learning pirouettes and you can google different stretches. It will be a major plus if you have both right and left splits and your center splits. I listed a couple YouTube videos below to get you started. Good luck!
