You need to discuss this with a parent and have them look into it. Around here where I live the Parents of Home Schooled sort of meet together to provide a better education experience and social interaction for their children. One of the things they did was start a Basketball team and they do compete!!!! Guess the Girls can Cheerleader if they wanted.

check around your area if there are any athletic teams not associated with a school and inquire

Perhaps an all boys school in town has cheer try outs. Ask your home school teacher; Mom or Dad, for advice.

The Pop Warner football is a good idea. Check with your local parks and rec dept for your county. They usually have some kind of programs. Also, check out some cheerleading camps.

There are some possibilities. Your local schools may allow you to try out for cheerleading even if you don’t go to that school. There may be local opportunities for cheerleading lessons. Check places that offer dance and gymnastics lessons as they are the most likely to have cheerleading. Also check into local sports groups.

The answer about going to public school may or may not be a good idea. There’s no guarantee you’d make it onto a cheerleading team if you were n school. Not every girl makes the cut.

There are community sports that INCLUDE cheerleaders. Call your local community center.

You’d be more likely to make the team there, than if you tried to get on a school team. Those teams are very clannish, where neighborhood teams take almost everyone.

Have your parents check to see in your town or surrounding area has a Homeschool Association. If not check local sports teams and see if they have cheerleaders, and check to see what the age limit is. I know where I am orginally from the girls do cheerlead for the Pee-Wee football teams, and also the older kids that play football. You do not have to be enrolled in public school to do this, you just have to have parents that are willing and able to help you do the research and find the resources that are out there for you. Also, someone else mentioned a center that offered dance/gymnastics classes, if you can not find the opportunity to cheerlead that might be a good idea to look into. Hope some of this info helps.

Check with the private (especially church) schools in your area. Several of them in our area allow homeschooled students to participate on their sports teams, in choir and band, and on academic teams (debate, quiz bowl, chess team).

Have your mom or dad explain exactly why they thought depriving you of all of the fun extracurricular activities of public school was a good thing. Also, ask them if they plan on guaranteeing you place in a good university, or if you need to rely on your academic record. Oops, looks like you will lose out on more than just those pon-poms.

That depends on what state you live in! In many states, you have the right to be on the cheerleading team and even participate in any other extra-curricular activities as a homeschooler since your parents still pay the taxes that pay for those activities. To find out the specific laws in your state, contact HSLDA or the state organization that fights for homeschooler rights. Most schools won’t know even if you are allowed, so don’t start there.
