Can you become a cheerleader in college even if you didn’t cheer for high school?

Question by Midori_Peridot: Can you become a cheerleader in college even if you didn’t cheer for high school?
I didn’t want to cheer for high school because i wanted to focus on my studies. but i heard that if you become a cheerleader in college, it would pay for your books and tuition. would it be impossible? since i did miss out on a lot of cheer leading stunts and chants and practices.

Doubtful they would be interested in someone with no experiences versus the hundreds who will try out with experience but hey try out anyway you never know!

where did you hear being on the cheer squad would pay for books and tuition? Just being on the team wouldn’t give you a scholarship.
You would need to try out for the squad. You should be able to go on any college web site to get information about their cheer leading

It depends on the college and your natural ability. Some colleges don’t have very good cheerleading squads, so pretty much anyone who is interested has a chance of making it. If the school does have a competitive cheerleading squad though, you would indeed have a tough time of making the team unless you are naturally talented at it (maybe if you’ve taken gymnastics). Being a cheerleader won’t necessarily mean you’ll get your books and tuition paid for though – it really depends on what school it is.
