Can anyone give me advice on a basket toss and a Liberty in Cheerleading?

Question by dtdancer_laura: Can anyone give me advice on a basket toss and a Liberty in Cheerleading?
The last couple of days I’ve been attempting a basket toss. Just one that goes straight up. I have a lot of trouble with it, I tend to stand at the wrong time or jump. Does anyone have advice.

Liberty- Last year I finally learned how to do a Lib. This new season in cheerleading I’m having trouble agian. I get up into the Lib but then I can’t hold it and I fall, I never make it to a cradle. Can anyone help?

for the basket toss make sure you really push your self up and for the lib. focus on something ahead,DON’T LOOK DOWN. Also for the lib ssqueezeyour butt cheeks it sounds funny but like think there is a penny there and you cant let i fall believe me it works! You could also practice standing on a can to keep your balance.

With a basket toss, ride it all the way to the top. Let them boost you. DO NOT JUMP, not only is that wrong it can become dangerous.

With your lib, squeeze your butt and tighten up your leg when you are up there. it helps you you balance. Also when you have your arms up make sure you kinda…. pull yourself up, if you will.

    Be careful, have fun.

    For the basket toss-

Make sure you are not jumping! I know its hard, but the whole point really is for the bases to throw you. Hence the “toss” part lol. Make sure you are using your arms to support yourself on their shoulders, and then just as there hands start to go up, start to stand. you should be completely in the standing position when they cant hold each other’s wrists anymore.

    Lib-

“Pinch a penny” is what my coach used to say lol. pretend like your holding a penny in your butt cheeks and don’t drop it. also make sure your knee is locked and your hips are even with each other. if one is higher than the other, you will fall. Again, easier said than done, but if you make sure all your muscles in your waste and legs are tight it will help.

Good luck! I hope you get it!

For the basket, don’t jump! They should do all the throwing. You push off of their shoulders but do not jump! Put your arms into a touchdown and pull them up so that your body pulls up with them, pull your chest up…you can practice pulling up on the ground just by putting your arms into the position and pulling up and being tight, your shoulders should be by your ears.

I had trouble with my lib too, what exactly do you have trouble with? If I do mine slower, it goes up easier. It’s different for everyone though. When I go up slower it just goes up so much better than a fast one. Don’t try to pull your foot in to your knee so much, pull your knee up as high as you can, it helps SO much!
That’s a huge factor, pull that knee up and it will help a ton! I can’t say that enough.
Squeeze your butt cheeks as hard as you can.
And again, in a high V, pull your chest & body up with your arms. Focus on something in front of you.
Don’t try to balance yourself, it’s hard but the bases should balance you.
Have you tried it with different bases, because it may be them and not you that’s not doing it right.
Get a soup can or something at home and practice your lib on that. If you get that, move to a higher place like a bed post, something not too wide.
    Hope I helped!

Basket toss- NEVER JUMP OUT OF IT your only gonna fly away from your bases. trust your bases they are gonna push you out and you just have to ride it to the top. relax.

Liberty- sounds like me what you might want to check on is if may be you are hitting your V with your arms to early. make sure that you are securely up there before you move your hands. also squeeze your buttocks very tightly. it might hurt but that just means you are doing it right

    good luck
