What are the requirements for Junior Varsity cheerleading?

Question by Rou: What are the requirements for Junior Varsity cheerleading?
I want to do cheerleading next year. And so I’m gonna be a freshman. I think I might be able to do a cartwheel and am fairly flexible. But I cant tumble or doe a toe touch or anything else. 😛 Do I need to be able to do those things?

Well it varies from school to school.
But at most schools, anyone who tries out for cheerleading and isn’t good enough for Varsity, just gets put on JV.

What do you think? Answer below!

It is okay if you arent a tumbler. I have never been a good tumbler really and I was one of the best on my Varsity squad. But work on your toe touch cause no matter what leverl of cheerleading you are at, jumps are required. Sit ups and stretching will help you:)

Im actually trying out for high school cheerleading this year and Ive heard that you dont have to have good tumbling, or be flexible. At other high schools though, they want you to be able to do at least a standing back handspring. ( you can also ask a high school cheerleading what they think you need to have, or even ask your middle school gym teacher and see if they can find out for you) However, if your really light and fairly flexible they may ask you to be a flyer. It is very good though if you have things like a roundoff back handspring, and you can learn how to do that by going to a local gymnastics gym and going to tumbling classes. If you dont think you want to be a flyer or if you think you wouldnt be good being a flyer, definately try basing. The only way you could base though is if you are strong and can hold a girl in the air. YOu also may really want to stretch alot because your going to need to be able to do jumps such as toe touches, pikes, hurdles, herkies etc. When you get your splits, doing jumps gets so much easier and they get higher too. hope i helped!! :]]

You need to do a toe touch it is the most used cheer jump so practice and not all JV squads require tumbling at my school it’s only recommended so practice your cartwheel. Good Luck!
