Q&A: What should I work on to make varsity cheerleading?

Question by greengreenpinkitupsayhellothisis: What should I work on to make varsity cheerleading?
I was wondering what i should work on to make varsity cheerleading.
I am in 8th grade and it is november
Next year i would be a freshman in high school and i would like to make varsity that fall.
anything i should work on that would take 9 months or less.
i can already do a backhand-spring and am working on my round-off backhand-spring
i have tumbling twice a week and trying to run about a mile a day on the treadmill.
any tips?

Just do lots of stretching and practice your jumps all the time. Keep going to tumbling because the better your tumbling is the higher a chance that you will make the team. In some schools it is really hard to make varsity as a freshman, so find out te requirements now so that you can meet then and maybe even with 9 months go above them.

-always smile, but dont look fake
    -be confident, but not cocky
-have attitude/sass when you dance, but dont over do it
    -dont overdo the facial expressions
-wear a bow in your hair for tryouts (school colors)
-wear an outfit that is school colors for tryouts
-stretch a lot. splits, to be exact
    -get high kicks
-work on your jumps, especially your toe touch (dont hunch/lean over)
-if you dont know how to dance on beat, then take a jazz dance class
-be stiff and sharp with your movements when you cheer
    -be loud, but dont scream
-being able to tumble is sometimes a requirement (gymnastics)

    good luck!

defffff keep up with the routine.

the thing about varsity that a lot of people dont seem to understand is its not only the level at which you perform, but also the maturity of the people on the team. i know on my team people who dont hold an upper classman attitude will get cut. you cannot act immature at practices- dont talk a lot, ask questions if you need them and not just mess up and you have to prove that you can bring new material to the table to teach and show that you have true leadership and you want to be there. always smile and be cheerful, never back talk your coach or captains, and make friends with all the girls (and or guys). also be sure that you do as well as you cna in school- most schools have policies that you will be suspended from the team if your grades are lacking. plus in the long run school is more important because there really is no such thing as professional cheerleading.

for the raw talent stuff- deff stretch EVERYDAY especially your back and legs. check on youtube for how to to all the kinds of jumps (eagle, double hook, side hurdler, herkie, toe touch (cupie), pike, front hurdler, all around the world, double nine) and trust me stretching is the best thing for you. also do a lot of leg lifts to get your jumps higher. also, i would start on a weight regimine- get 3lbs if youre really skinny and will probably be a flyer, or five lbs otherwise and look up and arm work out on youtube to get stronger- this will make your motions tighter- your elbows should hurt at the end of a cheer thats how hard you should be hitting your motions.
