Question by jerod.weber: What should I do in cheerleading as a male cheerleader?
I’m my high school’s first male cheerleader and my friends say I shouldn’t do the same thing as the girls, but what else is there to do. We don’t stunt so I can’t base that….

If u realy want to cheer do it don’t listen to what ur friends say. I know it sounds like something your mom would say but if they were really your friends theyd understand trust me I have a lot of friends that i can’t really count on Only one friend of mine really cares about me and supports me all the way no matter what.And besides i think male cheerleaders are hot. and plus you get to be holding all of the cheerleaders

oh my goodness..you should totally cheer..I encourage you 100%…we have a guy on our cheerleading squad this year and he is the first guy we have had..and he loves it…and he’s soo much fun to have around…don’t listen to what your friends say…follow your heart…and if cheerleading is something that you really really want to do…then go for it!…I love cheerleading!…It’s my favorite thing to do in the whole wide world…and If I were a guy…I wouldn’t quit just because my friends thought it was stupid..or “gay” as a lot of people say…Hope I helped =]
If you’re friends are saying you shouldn’t cheer, then that’s no way true. You can do whatever you want. There’s a lot of skill required in cheerleading, especially for guys. Remember, “Any man can hold a cheerleader’s hand but only the elite can hold her feet.”
If what they’re saying is that as a male cheerleader your cheering needs to be a bit different from the girls, they’re right. Male cheerleaders play a bit different role. One great thing to look into is tumbling. Guys have a lot more muscle which makes them a lot better tumblers, not to mention that they seem to have less nerves throwing things (in my experience). Some amazing tumbling always gets the crowd going. Also, instead of the traditional cheering with motions male cheerleaders ususally just shout with a megaphone, or raise signs for the crowd to yell along with. I would also try and see if maybe you could get stunting started, because it’s a huge crowd pleaser, lots of fun, and is made so much better with a male on the squad.
Hey, first of all I think its amazing that you are your high school’s first male cheerleader. I wish the same was for me but I’m like the fourth or something like that. Anyway I’ll give you a tip for what you could do. Usually guys don’t move as much with their feet and they don’t jump around as much also, that’s because it makes it look more masculine but you can do whatever you want. Its not that big of a deal. Oh and if you ever get a hard time about being a cheerleader just ignore them. I had a bad day yesterday and a lot of people from the football squad laughed at me so I went home and cried for 2 hours. Anyway, after a while I realized that instead of crying, I’m gonna show everyone that I can be amazing at cheerleading and they’ll give me more respect. Just gotta work super hard for it.
