It really depends on how competative cheerleading in your school is. The list below (link) looks pretty good for a fairly competative school.

Personally, I would recommend that you practice, practice, practice.

  1. candycanes are awesome

    get REALLY, REALLY flexible

try stretching a lot over summer break….

    Do the stretching daily……..

Practice backflips, cartwheels, and balancing…..(the best place to practice these is on a trampoline or something soft, big and bouncy)

right now you need to be stretching a lot….make sure you have your splits by high school..it will be great if ur going to fly or even in a dance routine.
eat right…exercise…build up your stamina and energy so when tryout comes you’ll be the one done running first =]
(running, aerobics, sit-ups, push-ups for arm muscles!!, paratroopers, and whatever you can find)

when it gets closer.. you should start practicing your facials (winks, smiles, attitude, surprised ,etc)
teach yourself to yell (use your diaphragm—if your stomach pushes out when you yell then you are doing it right)
    yell LOUD!!! =]
teach yourself basic motions…look at videos or cheer sites that can teach you the basics..

you also can try getting into gymnastics classes..it would help your squad a lot..

    good luck =]

(((( here is a site with stretches for flexibility and splits

    http://drillobsession.com/2006/09/03/flexibility-to-the-maxstretch-your-splits-in-3-weeks/

make sure you do them every day like it says…the stretches are a little further down the page))))

If you fly, work on your flexibility. Try taking a tumbling class, and do your jumps. Strength and endurance training will also help! Good luck!

It sounds like you’re doing competitive cheerleading. So you need to be flexible, tight, strong, you need a good attitude, and you need to be a quick learner.
