  1. cheer is power!

    You can do it!

    Tips to getting fit and flexible;
    1.) Create a schedule of stetches and workouts to preform each morning- staddle 30 second hold, 100 crunches, ect.
    2.) Wii Fit?? Do the yoga on that. practice the plank hold.
    3.) Run! cheerleading involves a lot of lung power, not only for the athleticness but because of the vocalness. running will expand your lungs.
    4.) Practice good posture.

    So to start off, you’ll attend a cheer tryout camp before the tryouts that last for about 3 days. You’ll learn a dance and some cheers that will be preformed at tryouts. They will also ask you to do jumps (probably a toe touch and a jump of choice). They might ask you to tumble. Don’t worry, if you can’t tumble but you’re a good dancer with sharp motions and a loud voice then they won’t care.

    Here are some questions for you; you don’t have to answer yes to all.
    1.)Can you preform a round off or a back hanspring?
    2.) Do you get passing grades (C and up)
    3.) Do you have a loud voice?
    4.) Can you dance with strong and sharp motions?
    5.) Can you do the splits?
    6.) Are you strong enough to lift/stunt?
    7.) Can you do a high toe touch with pointed toes in a T position?
    If you answered YES to 4/7 of the questions or more. you’re definately ready. If not, practice a lot on weak subjects.

    Before tryouts, you should know the basics.
    1.)Motions- high/low V, T, right/left punch, ect.
    2.)jumps/kicks- toe touch, hurdler, pike, tuck, ect.
    3.)Stunts- liberties, base, flyer, backspot, ect.
    4.)Tumbling- back/front handspring, round off, ect.

    Tips for tryout preparation;
    1.)Get lots of sleep the night before
    2.)Stretch and practice- but not too hard or you’ll be sore
    3.)Drink lots of water

    What to wear to tryouts;
    1.)athletic shoes with comfy socks
    2.)hair pulled back/up
    3.)light make up-avoid eye glitter
    4.)athletic black shorts
    5.)a comfortable shirt in your team colors. Watch out for sweat marks.
    6.)Spankies/briefs (to go under the shorts

  2. smile like you mean it...

    being a dancer, gymnast or both helps heaps.
    you could also do tumbling, cheer and dance classes to help.
