When I was in high school, our cheerleading squad always ran a cheerleading clinic for the younger girls. What we did was have different stations throughout the gym area. We had dance, cheer and chant, jumps and gymnastics, and stunts. What we taught depended on their grade levels. Easy stuff for younger kids and harder stuff for the older ones.

If you are really concerned about basics or skills you could also have a motion station. You could teach the girls how to properly do each kind of motion so that they don’t look sloppy.

If stunts are what you would like help with, it all depends on how young and how strong the kids are. However, no matter what– make sure there is ALWAYS spotters right there with the stunts. If it is beginner stunting, I suggest doing simple thigh stands at first. A thigh stand is 2 girls doing a lunge and another girl standing on their thighs. one girl holding onto the flyer’s waist. Another beginner stunt could be a shoulder sit. A low elevator is another skill to work on because they are used a lot in cheerleading. have the flyers do a hang drill and show them how to jump in to counts. try going to a UCA or NCA sponsored web site to look for more information. hope this helps a little!

Make sure you know what the girls want to have help in. Dont have meaningless stations. But different stations that focus on different things are good. Such as i would prefer to have a station to learn how to do toe touches where other girls on my team would want to do stunts so make sure you at least have an idea of what girls want.

Also make sure that you remember although camps are for girls to work an improve their skills dont press them to work hard all day. Some may have come to relax, get a work an meet new people. Dont over stress them.
