How can i become a cheerleader if i can;t even do a cartwheel!?

Question by luhluh:): How can i become a cheerleader if i can;t even do a cartwheel!?
i’ll admit it. I am a bit over weight. I am not flexible at all, but i really want to be a cheerleader!!! My friend is trying out too when we start school, and i would be very jealous if she got in. She told me i could do it. Does anyone have any tips on becoming more flexible, and doing tumbles? oh and what are the basic tumbles and things that you do in a try out?

A lot of junior high and high school cheer teams don’t require tumbling. I was a cheerleader for 6 years and the most I can do is a round-off because I have weak ankles from sprains. Practice cartwheels and try to impress the coaches with your jumps, specifically your toe touch. Simple stretches everyday will help with your flexibility.

Stretch for all 3 splits. The splits will definitely help with your flexibility.

    hope the vids help!!! 🙂

well, i cheerlead for my highschool and i NEVER had my splits but this year i stretched for six months straight and now i have my right and my lefts coming along.. so all i say is stretch stretch stretch EVERY DAY. every time you get the chance.. you will be sore, but no pain no gain.. well my team is REALLY competitive so we had to atleast have a spotted backhandspring.

well most people say to stretch and exercise.
You should probably start out with warm ups.
    Try doing
push ups: for making muscle in your arms so that you can do handspring, cartwheel, handstand and more
Do the butterfly position so you can stretch out your muscles.
    and so on…..
There are many kinds of warm ups you can do.
And keep practicing your splits, and cartwheels every day!
    I’m sure you’ll do good!~
