I coach CheerLeading !!! Dont worry if you have a good coach everything will be alright. You jusy need to get fit and stay fit and practice. Main thing to do is have fun and enjoy it !
You dont have to be skinny to be a CheerLeader. Many of my students arent but they try there best and some of them are beter than the skinny ones !! So keep your head up and try your best ! Hope I helped .. Good Luck =]

You need to get enrolled in a gymnastic course. Cheerleading you have to be very flexible. You don’t have to be very skinny to be flexible. I don’t know where you live but if is like Texas unless you have been enrolled in dance, gymnastic classes, and cheer leading courses sense you were a child the likely hood of making it is pretty much nothing.

You need to do A LOT of stretches because cheerleaders are super flexible. If you can do all the cheer moves but not backflips, they might put you on the squad and have you learn the backflips there. That’s what they did with a few girls on my squad who were really good at everything else.

You need to strech a lot and practice the jumps (toetouch, herkie, and tabletop.)
Your moves need to be really sharp and overexaggerated. No loose arms and loose movements, very sharp.
You need to make sure and be loud and energetic.
ALWAYS SMILE. Even when you are saying the cheers, you need to smile.
You should also do some pilates moves, because that gets you in good shape and that’s what most cheerleaders do to get their body.

    Good luck 🙂

the handsprings arnt that hard. if you practice you’ll get it.
you coudld even try doing them on a trampoline first, and then flat ground

but it might take you a while to get their jumps. where you stand in place and do a sertain jump. its a little hard a first .. and it also helps to be flexible, you kinda need that to be able to be a cheerleader

You probably would have to wait a little time before you were at the level to do flips and back handstrings. When your at the right level you will already have the training you need so it wont be that difficult. Excercising is a must-do to be in cheerleading! Remember: your not always going to be at the top of the tower! hope this helps 🙂

    no all cheeleader are skinny
but it is about apperence and spirit
    always smile
and give them a wink or something to show spirit
not all cheeleaders kno how to do flips
depends on if your tryin to cheer for a perfissional team, school, or what?!?
but flexabily and stregth is the key of cheerleading
    also voice
make sure your arms are stiff
stretch every day [dont over push yourself]
    a split is also good
c how far you could go with out bending your back leg and stay their for about 15 seconds then push your self to go lower
it would be much easier to do your split if u stretch very well

    hope this helps good luck

I had never done cheerleading before and I tried out for my school’s squad in 9th grade and made it. I can’t tell you about the flips cause I cannot tumble (it was not a requirement at my school). You can do this if you work hard. Being skinny does not matter. You just need to get in shape and work on your flexibility. Also practice a lot! even if you only know one cheer you can still practice. Practice your motions, jumps, facials, and sharpness. Even though it sounds dumb, it helps to get in front of a large mirror and practice. Then you can see what you are doing right and what you need to improve on. It might also help to get someone that has been doing cheerleading to help you perfect everything. Reading and watching movies about motions and jumps is not as helpful as someone critiquing you.

Just remember to have fun and try your hardest. That is how I made it.

Well, im not the next Skinny thing you see, but I am a cheerleader, Cant do a back hand spring to save my life lol

But Im tall so there for I am a back spotter !

Stretch , stretch , stretch thats all I do and my jobs are prefect to my squad and coach, do lots of Sit ups to help you do better jumps, Drink lots of water and depending if you are over weight try to lose at least 5 lbs not saying your weight would matter Ive seen Thick Cheerleaders before but if your squad is used to those skinny bittys you might want to tone up a little

good luck to you and be spunky and Cheerful , Watch a couple of Bring it on’s and you will be just Fine !

yes I’ve been a cheerleader my whole life, and the captain of my varsity squad for three years. We were very good! The backhandsprings can be hard, but it’s all mental! Once you get over the fear of just throwing yourself back you can do it! Size doesn’t really matter, I’ve seen some amazing heavy size cheerleaders that can tumble better than I even can! But if it’s hard for your body cheerleading does require to be physical fit, just because of all the tumbling, jumping, dancing, and energy you use. Try by starting to walk everyday a mile, then here and there start running. Try to set a goal to a run a mile everyday. Cheerleading at least the tumbling part has alot to do with your abs, so try and strengthen that part as well. But you can do it girl! If you really want it you can do it! Work to it! GOODLUCK!!

Dont worry Ive been a cheerleader for 4 years when i first started i was really bad i didnt know anything but i got really good now im like the best cheerleader in my school just make sure when you tryout that you smile and you give it all you got and you’ll be fine:)

  11. Coach ~Jen

Some teams are harder than others. If they stunt and tumble at an advanced or elite level, then yes it is hard. Ask the coach what skills you need to get onto the team. If a back handspring is required and you don’t have one, you need to get into a tumbling class. You’ll also probably have to wait a year or so to get on that team unless you can learn the BHS really, really fast. (Some people can, but only if they already have a perfect handstand, bridge, and jump back.)

Don’t worry about your size. As long as you can do the skills you need to correctly it doesn’t matter. In fact it helps to have bigger girls who can base the stunts.

Everything you need to know about cheering (exercises and stretches, motions, jumps, cheers, dancing, stunts, and tumbling) can be found here: http://aescougarcheer.com/Cheer101/basics.htm

The big thing is to commit and practice several times a day to get ready for tryouts.

    Good luck!
