What are the requirements to become a cheerleader?

Question by stargirl: What are the requirements to become a cheerleader?
i am going in 6th grade for the next school year and i want to tryout for cheerleading. What are the requirements to be a cheerleader because i have no idea and im not flexible,have no experience in cheer or tumbling. Please help!

Enthusiasm is the most important thing and some gymnastic skills would help.

    okay, they will teach you a cheer and dance. you dont need to be flexible or tumble for a middle school team. you will need to learn a toe touch and possibly a herky (jumps; check out you tube) but thats really it. just smile and have lots of sprit and you’ll for sure make it 🙂

    Team spirit, tumbling is important in most routines now–also flexibility. You can take some classes to get in “shape” for tryouts. The ability to memorize the routines, be friendly and outgoing. It’s just like anything else—if you want to be good at it, it takes discipline and practice, practice, practice!

    I’m a junior high cheerleading coach. I require for my girls to do a toe-touch, a side herkie, to learn a cheer, chant, and dance. I would recommend stretching a lot. Flexibility is very important. Some schools require tumbling, but the school I coach at is very small so it’s not as important.
