hey im a cheerleader and i sooooo consider cheerleading a sport. it takes alot of guts to do what we do and we break a sweat doing it!!! we are just like every athlete out there!

It’s amazing how some people still don’t realize how hurtful it is to say to someone who’s being training and perfecting their skills for a sport they loved that what they are doing is not a sport. In addition, people used burping, eating and lawn care as their argument for comparison against cheerleading. Are you serious? That is like a slap in the face for the athletes. And they wonder why the cheerleaders are so upset. Please read my definitions again why cheer/dance is a sport!

Sport vs non sport debate –

Can it not be a sport, but at least a competitive art form? I want to define sports as teams that are put into direct conflict to do something against the other team (usually score higher points), but not from the point of a judge, I mean saying dance or cheer is a sport is like saying singing is a sport, a person or group performs and is judged higher or lower than others.

so instead I’d say it’s more a competitive art form, I’m not saying it’s easy either.

@UchihaSasukeRoCkS YES YES YES!!! I AGREE!!! High School Varsity here and we do WAY MORE than the typical FB player!!!!!! IT PISSES ME OFF WHEN PEOPLE SAY CHEERLEADING IS NOT A SPORT!!!

Its amazing how people in here see the category of sport as some kind of rekognition! They get really really offended for no reason at all! Just because someone say that cheer isnt a sport in their eyes, dosnt mean they dont think cheer is hard or difficult or impressive! And then people use definitions found on the net as arguements!? – By those it is a sport to burp, or eat, og mow the lawn! – Or they write in capitals as: MY LETTERS ARE CAPITALS, SO IM RIGHT! Come on guys! Get real!

I am a dancer and a cheerleader… I think both are sports! I am done with cheerleading now and have dedicated myself to dance, and I was only in middle school cheer and I can say I worked really hard. My dance is crazy, though. I work ten times harder there than anywhere I have ever been for anything.

Cheerleading is not a sport! these guys are all on steriods, and these girls look like they are on crack! Real sports have drug testing, I’m guessing most of these people would be busted.

@TheSecretsofAngels Ok then things like football and basketball and soccer and lacrosse….those aren’t sportsThey are just activities that require skill. Nothing more then. Cheerleading combines “weight” lifting with gymnastics and dance and other things. It is competetive, there are teams, it takes tons of practice (both inside and outside of actual practice) and A TON of confidence. If cheerleading can’t be a sport but golf can there is something wrong with the world.

Cheerleading is such a fantastic sport, it is, without a doubt, one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, next to gymnastics. When boys find out I got injured at cheer, the usual reaction is either; “Cheerleading isn’t even a sport!” or “How can you get hurt? It’s so easy!” My brother always rants about how i couldn’t last a day in his MMA classes because I’m weak, yet I base and backspot. He, and lots of other people, don’t know how difficult this sport is. It’s just sad really.

i do cheerleading and volley ball and a things called raiders before i did other sports after cheerleading cheerleading felt really har and like an actually sport but when you do othr sports it makes cheerleaders seem like wussys but cheering is a sport and its competetive and depends on what team your on its hard i love cheerleading thoo

cheerleading is definatly a sport any1 who says its not says that because they know they cant handle the pressure and how hard it is!

@mrbuttercowiscool If grade school cheerleading meets all the requirement I listed then it too is sport. Their skills may not be fully developed like these college cheerleaders, but everyone has to start somewhere. It’s no difference than grade school football. Their skill level is not exactly like college football either.

  14. mrbuttercowiscool

@daddywongproductions I say that the competitive dance and cheer are a sport, but not the grade school cheerleading.

I agree that cheerleading is a sport, but the tricky thing is…with sports that are sports without question (like football, soccer, baseball etc.) there is a definate winner. Not the best teams win all the time, cheerleading competitions are more often than not, a popularity contest, so teams are winning when its the judge’s OPINION! Thats why if for any reason it shouldn’t be declared a sport. You can say that cheerleading isn’t a sport, but dont dare tell me I am not an athlete. WHS Varsity(:

    @TheSecretsofAngels
world cup all stars, top gun, cheer extreme, kiara nowlin, california allstars, Allstar One, Cheer Athletics (ha u see that athletics athletics=athlete=sport), georiga allstars, stingray allstars, South Jersey Storm, Spirit of Texas, and maryland twisters. there are many more but i just can’t think of any at the moment. watch em on youtube and then tell me it’s not a fucking sport….

  17. iCraacked

@TheSecretsofAngels ‘Activity the requires skill yes, not a sport?’ I’m really not quite getting the point you were trying to put across and both dance and cheerleading are sports. Or at least those who compete do. Otherwise, yes, it isn’t a sport. If you’re saying neither has skill, that obviously is not true. As mentioned a sport is defined by three major things. It’s is physically active, it is competitive, and it has a set of rules/regulations.
