Question by StandStillLookPretty.: at cheerleading try outs i was a flyer now i am positioned as a front base, advice?
I am 5’1 and 99 pounds , i had my first experience with cheerleading and i acually made the team and i was super impressed with myself,
during the try outs i was the flyer the whole time, and i have been positioned as the front base
whats the difference? i know maybe i cant fly because i am not strong enough? maybe i have future potential as a flyer
? or do i stay as a front base?

Best answer:

Answer by breeprin
well what do you like more? personally i think flying would be much more fun. if u want to fly practice jumping high and staying balanced. a good way to practice is a trampoline or on your pool. also maintaining a good figure and staying light-weight is important because you want to go extremely high.

Q&A: Advice for cheerleading tryouts?

Question by hokeypokey: Advice for cheerleading tryouts?
I’m in 8th grade. I’m trying out for freshman cheerleading. I did gymnastics in 4th grade for a while so i have a backround. Now im taking 8 classes over the course of 4 weeks for tumbling.

Does anybody have any tips for trying out in front of judges? Any cheerleaders that know what judges want? Or know what you did right and what others did wrong? Any people who tried out and know what you did wrong?

Best answer:

Answer by PJ
make sure to take charge. always be nice to everybody you come across even if they are biyotches. but don’t suck up. sucking up is so apparent and desperate and childish. don’t be sarcastic. listen carefully to everything said in the tryouts. be confident. compliment people. don’t look ugly. never stop smiling. never say anything negative.dont be obnoxious with the chit chat. dont act ditzy or dumb. if you fall on your face, whatever, give a cute smile shake your head and continue. dont obsess over it. be mature, but dont be snooty.

good luck

Can anyone give me advice on a basket toss and a Liberty in Cheerleading?

Question by dtdancer_laura: Can anyone give me advice on a basket toss and a Liberty in Cheerleading?
The last couple of days I’ve been attempting a basket toss. Just one that goes straight up. I have a lot of trouble with it, I tend to stand at the wrong time or jump. Does anyone have advice.

Liberty- Last year I finally learned how to do a Lib. This new season in cheerleading I’m having trouble agian. I get up into the Lib but then I can’t hold it and I fall, I never make it to a cradle. Can anyone help?

Best answer:

Answer by abercrombielover
for the basket toss make sure you really push your self up and for the lib. focus on something ahead,DON’T LOOK DOWN. Also for the lib ssqueezeyour butt cheeks it sounds funny but like think there is a penny there and you cant let i fall believe me it works! You could also practice standing on a can to keep your balance.

Q&A: Advice for a high school cheerleader sponsor?

Question by Melissa H: Advice for a high school cheerleader sponsor?
I just signed on to be the cheerleader sponsor for next year. I teach at a high school in Texas. I’ve never cheered and I know I basically just need to be the “adult” in charge when they go places. But does anyone have advice that may have been overlooked by the principal? Like how to deal with parents or how to deal with discipline (I like a demerit system, but don’t know how to make it work). Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by MEL
I would NOT reccomend the demerit system. That is babyish. The easiest way for disipline in cheerleading is making them RUN. For example 5 laps for chewing gum in practice. If it’s something more extreme like drinking alcohol then they should sit out 2 games. This is called getting benched. I don’t think you’ll deal much with parents really. The girls are old enough to take care of themselves. I would suggest having the girls take a tumbling class together at a local gymnastics gym (improves skills in cheerleading) and sending them to a cheer camp during the summer. Have fundraisers like car washes, host cheer clinics for little girls, cow patty drops, and sell items like cookie dough. Always make sure your girls are using mats during practice for stunting and if they drop the flyer in the stunt (if she hits the ground) then make them run.
